91319 2002-10-21 03:40:00 Does anyone know how to prevent or workaround the DVD zone locking on PC Company DVD drives? Documentation states that the user can change the DVD zone 5 times before the DVD drive will lock the zone. Is this done in hardware or software? Phil32 (1492)
91320 2002-10-21 03:49:00 DVD Region Free is supposed to be good. Have a saerch through the previous posts of Tweak'e, it'll be under the News posts.

It'll cost about $35 NZ though I think.

I'm not the highest of knowledge on this subject as I dont actually have a DVD player, but I do do my best to read up on tweak'es posts.

Give it a shot

Cheers

91321 2002-10-21 03:56:00 Hi Phil32,

The PC Company probably don't make the DVD drive themselves. They would use a brand. Unlocking the DVD is illegal and I don't know about the terms and conditions on this forum regarding illegal activities such as this.

The locking is done via the firmware that is in the DVD drive itself. It is software for that particular chip. If you knew what brand in particular it was then it would be little bit easier.

What version of windows are you running? The device manager should and will tell you what it is.

A program called DVD Genie can tell you as well what type of drive it is and what version of the firmware it has.

Hope this can help, someway.

No it's not :)

elby.ch Killer[/url] is supposed to be very good for working around region settings, although it doesn't stop your drive from being locked on a certain region. It's also free. You'd need to flash the firmware to stop that from happening (not for novices).
