91371 2002-10-21 19:18:00 >Barracuda

I raise my hands towards the monitor and cross my fingers in the shape of a cross... better you than i for those things.. Save me from this evil.

The only HDD failures i have had/dealt with have been Barracuda, (apart from one many years ago that i honestly can't remember what it was)

Other than that i do find that the seagates are pretty damn fine.

91372 2002-10-21 19:22:00 Also check what sort of warranty you will get!

I know that the Seagates are still coming with a 3 year warranty but other brands have changed to only 1 year.

91374 2002-10-21 20:53:00 Hi, I bought an 60GB Maxtor 7200RPM, ATA-133 HDD for a friend from PCGear in Dunedin for $260 - this was in my mind a compromise between quality, price, and the fact that he needed it that day and couldn't wait for shipping. I think the consensus is that those prices you quoted were very high, and there are plenty of cheaper deals around.

91375 2002-10-22 00:22:00 You can actually buy 20 GIG HDDs??

Haven’t seen then around for ages!

Getting back to the post, you say you’re in Whangarei, have you tried computerland up there, if I remember right they quoted me some very competitive prices a while ago.

Cheers
