91299 2002-10-21 07:07:00 It was possible to "hack" hotmail accounts, you could get some of the ways to do it off the net some time ago but I understood that Hotmail was aware of those loopholes. You could contact Hotmail and use a alternative email address so that they can reply and explain what you think has happened but I don't know what help they will give you.

I would suggest that you might be better off going to a different free email service and starting over.

91300 2002-10-21 07:34:00 yep, I have heard of couple of people who had not so secret questions and then wondered how someone else had accessed their hotmail account. I think my hotmail question is 'what is 1 + 2' but I have no idea what gibberish I put in as the answer. Having a real question is just another way for someone (usually a person you know) to get their way in. Fatcam (1700)

it wouldn't surprise me if they already can pick up addresses in that form. It would be harder, but still possible to write a bot to do it (I assume).

Also there's always the child labour way

91304 2002-10-21 08:35:00 Tim.. Hotmail expires after a month (i think)
and anyway, its got to be the most fickle, unreliable free email system ever..
Try these:
www.windows-sucks.com
(recomended by my better½ who has this as her only non ISP address that she actually uses)

www.eudoramail.com
(complete with pop3 access (allthough it's falkey at times, and they deny that pop3 access exsists)

www.orcon.net.nz
Free webhosting and free pop3/web email BUT you have to join there community, which IF you later choose Orcon as an ISP, gives you a username in advance (they want your biz, your attention is a good start)

www.hisplace.co.nz
www.herplace.co.nz
www.yahoo.co.nz
Actually theres heaps of them, but the latter 3 give you free webbased-only email, and while just about everyone offers a better service than hotmail, no-one seems to offer worse.

As far as i am concerned, the only thing hotmail are good for is an email address that you could post somewhere like here. after a week, when there is no more real mail, you can abandon it, and leave it to the spam bots to flood it and hotmails servers with spam and bounce notices, while leaving other services that have some value untouched.

91305 2002-10-21 10:43:00 If you are interested in "hacking" your hotmail account do this:

Create either a web page or an html email that contains the exact layout of the msn/hotmail/passport login page. send an email to the address in question, making sure the "from" field contains "Hotmail Security" or similar. The email says something along the lines of "As part of our continuing effort to make Hotmail more secure, we require you to confirm your username and password... blah blah..

If you created an html email, the form will be contained here, otherwise provide a link to the "hotmail" page you created.

When creating the form make sure the results are sent to you and not Microsoft!
