91529 2002-10-22 01:53:00 I have tried to install two Aopen CDRW Drives (not at the same time), Models CRW3248 & CRW4850 with no joy.
I have tried them on two different PC's also.
The current PC I have the CRW4850 on is running Win2k SP3.
Win2k recognises the drive OK, is sometimes able to read a disk and then stops (with the CRW3248 model it wouldn't read any type of disk).
I have tried different configurations and all the jumpers are correct.
I have the Nero 5 burning software that came with each drive and doing the tests that come with that seem to run fine until the end when it suddenly decides it can't read the disk the drive was just testing! (which happens to be that nero software disk).
I have the H/Drive on IDE 1 by itself. The CRW4850 is on the secondary IDE as Master (I have tried as slave also) and a Lite-on 48xCD ROM as the slave (which works fine). Mode is PIO 4 (factory default on Drives and M/Board).

What is going on?

This must be happening to other people as well surely (and reading some of the comments on their website, this is true). I have asked them the same thing but no reply or answers yet.

I'm sure you guys will be up to the challenge.

Cheers,
Vandaman.

91530 2002-10-22 02:07:00 Not sure about W2000, but do they show up in System - Device Manager as OK. I use Aopen 4048 as a slave to CDr & just plugged in and away it went. Is Nero & Incd installed OK.

91531 2002-10-22 02:20:00 Everything in Device manager is OK.
Correct drive detected, no problem devices showing.
InCD is not installed as I won't be using the Drive in that way (I did install it before, installed properly - didn't make the drive work any different so I uninstalled it. Haven't even attempted to burn a CD yet.

Under 'Event viewer' - System - I get an IO error reading the Drive sometimes (if a CD is in that Drive on boot-up, or when it refuses to read a CD).

91532 2002-10-22 02:51:00 Umm from me !! I'm sure one of the experts will help you sort it. Seems odd that 2 drives will not work - expect the odd dud slips thru, but not 2.
Any access to another system?

91533 2002-10-26 12:23:00 they may be faulty drives as i have no probs as yet with mine but they do seem to be noisey like any other 50x at reading cds :( MHRT (2313)
91534 2002-11-18 00:23:00 I fixed the Problem. I sent the drives back and got replacements!
Don't know what's different but the replacements work.
