91816 2002-10-22 20:21:00 Hi,
I have call waiting. Sometimes phone calls get through while on the net & sometimes not. When they do come through of course I get disconnected.
I have ME, & in the tools thing somewhere the *52 is not enabled. Is this a Telecom peculiarity?
Pauline.

91817 2002-10-22 20:34:00 If you have call waiting on your phone line your modem may disconnect when you get a call and your phone will ring but this all depends on your modem and how sensitive it is to the call waiting tones.

If you put *52 in front of the dialup number for your ISP this diaables call waiting and when someone calls your number when you are on the internet they will get an engaged signal instead of a ringing tone and of course your modem will not disconnect.

Nothing to do with Telecom. You're modem isn't supposed to disconnect, just sometimes they do. It's not an advanced feature or anything. New modems are coming out that can support call waiting, but I dont' think any ISPs in NZ support this yet.

91819 2002-10-23 03:42:00 "V92" is the magic code. V90 is the current 56kbps standard; most modems sold now will be V92, but it needs an upgrade at the ISP. That will cost a lot of money, so it won't be done until equipment has been written off, or the customers complain enough, or one ISP splashes out in the hope of capturing a lot of new customers ffrom the opposition. ;-) Graham L (2)
91820 2002-10-23 04:13:00 I'd give V.92 a shot... apparently there's 1 ISP already... dunno though. Chilling_Silence (9)
91821 2002-10-23 04:25:00 Giving google.co.nz the string "isp v.92 site:nz" will get you some information about V.92 . There seem to be some benefits in it ;-) Graham L (2)
