91719 2002-10-22 07:53:00 I was wandering how often do you change the CMOS battery?
I'm not sure if mines running low or not.

91720 2002-10-22 07:54:00 Also does changing the CMOS battery also reset all CMOS settings? Chao is back (634)
91721 2002-10-22 08:01:00 Hi Chao

Answers:

1) About every three years or if your computer clock starts to lose time.

2) No, but it's a good idea to note key CMOS settings just in case. Best to change the battery quickly i.e. in less than a minute. Unless you are badly coordinated it takes about 10-15 seconds to take the old one out and put the new one in.

With digital multimeters costing less than $15 at Jaycar and DSE it's probably worth having one. Change the battery if it drops below 2.5 volts, but anything below 2.9 to 3 indicates it is on the way out.

91722 2002-10-22 08:02:00 you could expect 3-5 years from a battery.

you usally dont lose any settings if you just swap then over.
