2002-10-23 06:58:00 | If you really want to know whether you have to download XP SP1 in its entirety then you should go go here (www.microsoft.com) | blank_harry (1661) | |
2002-10-23 09:02:00 | well, wait to PC World put it on CD!! $50 bucks is a laugh really. Paying for something tat fix their own problem. Its how businesses work. IBM try to charge me $60 odd bucks for win98se I paid for b4 but they gave me no CD at the start, not til i jumped up and down they gave way. I read PC World a long time ago, MS says this fee is justifiable ... CD cost, labour costs, Courier costs, IT costs, customer service costs, GST. I thou disagree. May be the restaurant should pay me to chew his food! Wait for PC World or get off a friend. Ask work or school like uni, college etc...

2002-10-23 09:06:00 | I have a university connection in my room. Downloads over 100 - 300 KB/sec. Normally 150ish. Too bad I have a 2X writer! Opportunity gone. DAP works great.

2002-10-24 05:09:00 | This is not true! I ordered and recieved the SP1 cd from M$ nz last week for $19.95, which I thought was reasonable for the costs involved in production, admin and mailing. I ordered it by phone on Friday and it was in my mailbox tuesday - pretty good service I thought. regards Andy

2002-10-24 09:54:00 | $19.95 is far more reasonable than the $49.95 quoted to me by Microsoft over the phone! I'd wear $19.95, just. Anything else on the CD? Does it have copyright? | crozier (2004) | |
2002-10-25 05:13:00 | There are some other bits and pieces (a "value pack") that I must admit I didn't look at to closely but as the upgrade is downloadable, I can't see any problem in copying it. If you want to send me a mailer and a dollar for a cd, I'll run you off a copy. email me - ray.anderson@xtra.co.nz regards, andy

2002-10-26 06:11:00 | i downloaded it at night on a 56k modem. it toke about 5hours with a system back-up! works fine though | myles (2322) | |
2002-10-26 10:07:00 | 5 Hours! My concern is that we consider this to be acceptable. sure it's not MS's fault that most of us are stuck with 56k or moe likely 40k! On a good day. If I bought any other product other than computer, or computer related one, I'd sceam the roof down if it wasn't right. Look at all the trouble over y2k. I rember discussing the possible problems about y2k in the 80s - it wasn't a surprise that the problems arose, it was bad programming! The security and other problems with Win 95, 95R2, 98, 98SE, 2000, ME, XP are all down to Microsoft! Sny other product and we'd see the it withdrawn. A motor vehicle with bad fuel security? But Bill Gates wants us to pay, either by a huge download or with our credit cards. We're luckly here in NZ because we have a flat rate for our phones, many countries users have to pay for each minute online.... and it mounts up real fast with 100mb+ downloads! Why the hell should we have to pay even 1c for a fix (or partial fix) for what was supposidly a finished product? The best ever Windows version, the most secure? Or should we really be considering Windows 95 as Windows Beta1, R2 as Beta2, Win98 as Beta3 etc.? Is windows XP still a beta product? I ended up switching to Windows because my OS of choice disappeared due to bad marketing, such a shame. Bill Gates has effectively hog tied the computer world, fair enough - but when they get it wrong why should we stick our hands in our pockets once more, hasn't Bill got enough yet?

2002-10-27 08:06:00 | After reading all the posts on how to obtain SP1. I've noticed everyone obtaining it, but what I really want to know is has no one encountered any problems with it? I know the SP1 is suppose to fix the bugs and everything on XP. I installed it the other day and have encountered several problems no fixes at all ... One problem since the SP1 installation is that IE doesnt automatically load images now. Not only IE any program realated with .NET. I find this really annoying and cannot fix it at all. Another problem is that MSN explorer now is set to Los Angeles as its home . I've tried numerous ways to fix it but to my knowledge othing can change it back to Auckland (xtramsn). I've uninstalled sp1 tp try to fix it and still no solution. I really wouldn't install SP1 as it causes more problems then fixing.
