2002-10-22 12:50:00 | Ben, ben, ben ben... 1st. Do not wipe XP Pro. It is the best Windows yet, its fast and stable... even for your high performance chess. 2nd. Please, for gods sake don't waste this lovely machine on Chess and checking your spam each day. This machine is a powerhouse, use it! Bad karma otherwise. Good luck.

If you could tell me what sort of games I can handle then I will consider buying them. I dont mind being called a newbie because I am one. | Ben Elwood (2315) | ||

2002-10-22 19:27:00 | Ben: What games can you play on your PC: Anything you find in a games shop with a square label with the letters PC on the box. It depends on your hobbbies and interest, but there are LOTS of games that your PC will play. Trot down to your local Electronics Boutique, Gamesman, Harvey Norman, Dick Smith etc shop and have a chat with the sales people there (watch the Dick Smith ones). Alternatively I have a laptop that will full your requirements nicely. Wanna swap? :D SiK

2002-10-22 20:53:00 | Yes Windows 1.0 was just a bit before XP, like as in 1985. Of course to get the best results you would need to upgrade your monitor to CGA, or an EGA, and there's also heaps of freeware text based games that would run well on DOS 3.3 ]:) This page (www.fortunecity.com)is one that gives a time-line if you are interested to know more, also gives history of DOS.

2002-10-22 22:31:00 | There are 2 OS i hated the most . . one is Win95 and one is Win98, ME is not much better either . . I would say 2000 and XP is the only way to go if u plan to use windows . You will be very lucky to get all your devices running in Win95 . . since it's such an old OS, the memory management is poor, it will not run faster than XP, depends on what version of 95, you might not even get USB, it may still use FAT16 (2 . 1GB partitions max . . umm nice . . you can have 19 partitions :D), browsing in IE3 . . . fun, not much anti virus supports 95 platform . . . even microsoft doesn't supoprt it anymore . . . I don't see a single advantage in using Win95 as opposed to XP . . . You wanna hazzle free installation, use XP, or if you wanna challenge and prepare to download heaps and heaps of patches (if they're still available) and expect it not work work at the end, use Win95 :D
