2002-10-23 05:16:00 | You are one lucky guy to have a "generous" Dad like that. There are plenty of excellent laptops available for sale in NZ, without having to buy one off the internet

You will also need to check whether the laptop will work oversesa, sa some countries have different voltage configurations, etc. | Obelix (752) | ||
2002-10-23 20:51:00 | Godfather, you are about my generation. Lotus used to have that block on software being used on more than 1 pc at a time. But when approached on the matter, it was possible, because I was taking work home, due to company mergers and staff reductions. But Bill Gates as usual would be an entirely different story. A shame he can't get his billions to make his software to run properly, mind you it does create opportunities for others to make software that does overcome short comings. Bin Laden must use Microsoft software, otherwise that's where he could do a lot of damage, to the Infidels he seems to have it in for. Les 3

2002-10-24 09:46:00 | u should check, yes. thou laptops tend to have power supply and modem for many countries anyway. u may consider IRDA/Bluetooth or even GRPS/Mobile Jetstream thou its pricy. Voda can roam more thou... cellfone if u doh have access to a phoneline. hotels are extraodinary pricey. not bad on cellfone for a short time. IBM is not a bad contender. I am using my 3rd IBM laptop of 4 laptops. 1st was Toshiba. They tend to be v innovative and best upgradable. ie. keyboard light so can type in dark, ultraybay - CD/CDRW/DVD/FDD/2nd HDD/2nd battery,250ZIP/240SUPER FLOPPY/CDRW&DVD COMBO. They also have a complete line of designs ultraportable, desktop replacement, light and fast, cheaper with features. 1KG and up. 12" to 15". Ultraport = Camera with facial recognition biosecurity, memory card reader, bluetooth (if not got), IRDA (if not got), high quality microphone. Ultraplus = Palm charger, numeric keyboard keypad. The ultrportable has builtin memory card - works fantastic, great for digicam superfast compared to USB. If u gonna travel, look for one with international warranty! Now I have answered ur question. Why not Palm?? Or a flash cellfone like the Nokia 9210i the one in James Bond where he controlled the BMW or the picture Nokia. Course u cant do that, u know what i mean. Do u really need all laptop functions?? Maybe not too heavy ie.. 1KG models its length and width is annoying. And u feel scared if u rough the laptop due to uncertainty of HDD's in motion. Look AirNZ intl allows 25-30KG on intl flights - a avg laptop is at 2.5KGs. Ultraportable is 1.2KG + case and other stuff..... 2.5KG least for ultraportable. Rayonline

2002-10-24 10:19:00 | why didnt u just buy a expensive laptop - desktop replacement type?? its troublesome always have to sync files btwn 2 computer. never is 2 pc's always have all u want and personalise for u. and if u like me, sick of thinking (not bought any yet) of upgrades for games. like 400/500$$ video cards and sounds cards every 6months. forget it and go PS2 or Xbox if u like Bill. No games thus means I can accept a M-ATX slimline design. I am sticking with a ultraportable laptop w/ docking station and DVD. Ok for travelling thou its wide! No desktop for me. When I get one, will get when laptop ages so bad so will use laptop w/ win2k in 3 yrs later. If I play games, will get PS2 - can hire games and no continous upgrades - PS2 cannot upgrade cpu, os, video, sound fortunately! Can hire and doh break the bank every week or moan and groan at junk mails. I personally prefer a paper notpad than a Palm. its the essence value. I mean if u travelling its about talking to locals for directions than following a fixed intineary off the device and reading a GPS thing. To learn and participate in a foreign environment is the enjoyment factor.
