91842 2002-10-22 21:22:00 How about some radio boxes on the Post new message screen to indicate what OS is being used, which then displays on the first post so that we don't have to continuously ask what OS? :D

91843 2002-10-22 21:58:00 Now there's a great idea.
Of course if the question is regarding Linux, you would also want a text field for the type of distribution. :)

91844 2002-10-22 22:02:00 Or a list box. A list box would be preferable.
Depends on how many distro's there are. ;)

91845 2002-10-22 22:03:00 Perhaps :)

Also an "Other" field would be required (some people ask about Macs in here)

91848 2002-10-22 22:43:00 On the off chance that it is not practical to add this feature, heres an alternative: "The guide for new posters" including such classics as

"OT should start trhe subgect line of anything not directly computer related"

"Don't forget to mention what operating system you have"

and

"Dont forget to mention what brand/model/specs of hardware you are having problems with"

Perhaps that could be an FAQ?
Perhaps the 2 could co-exsist nicely?
Perhaps i'm the pot calling the kettle black.. but then again most of us forget to state the "obvious" at times

91849 2002-10-22 22:57:00 I agree with Clueless - there could be just a little reminder to mention these things in between the Subject box and Your Reply box.

>>> Perhaps that could be an FAQ?

People don't read the FAQs unless they're told to and have no choice. :D

91850 2002-10-22 23:01:00 ok, this might be hard for those pressf1 coders (well, its not very hard to do imho :p), but how about including the Category in the main forum, in its own column, mayb a small pic next to the thread, etc that is relevant to the topic, and include a category called OT ;)

>People don't read the FAQs unless they're told to and have no choice.
