91822 2002-10-22 21:03:00 just been trying out my new nortons system works (thx pcworld :)) however when i ran speed disk i failed to notice that goback was not in the "don't move" list. so the defrag(speed disk) tried to defrag goback. end result- pc wouldn't boot, repair tools had trouble trying to repair, couldn't install windows 'over the top' (had even more errors). so i've spend most of last night formating and reinstalling :(

got a few of MS updates to do then i shall get back to posting the news.

91823 2002-10-23 00:17:00 Isn't that pretty dumb of Symantec not to have that option enabled as default? Or did you disable it somehow?

Crikey, I can see untold damage coming up for just about everyone who uses that and wouldn't know what went wrong nor how to put things right like you did.

91826 2002-10-23 02:38:00 Nope, it's the full thing, and comes with an offer to upgrade to the 2003 version.

There's also on the CD a DOS version of Tom's Boot Disk, Ultimate Boot Disk, Windows 98, 98SE, Me, boot disks.

91827 2002-10-23 04:22:00 I use diskeeper myself its faster snd doesnt clash with goback you can also surf while its defragging kiwibeat (304)
91828 2002-10-23 04:34:00 the problem really arose due me installing defrag after goback. when goback installs it tells the defrag progs that it is an unmovable file.

ideally nortons should have reconnised such a comman program as goback and set it to unmoveable.

what really bugged me was that you had to have IE installed for nortons to install. (norton comes with IE6 on the disk).

diskkeeper might be a go if nortons follows microsofts lead.
