2002-10-24 04:36:00 | In an effort to "push" my PC, I decided to upgrade the heatsink and fan of my P4 1.8Ghz to a Volcano 7+... Everything went well until I accidentally dislodged the CPU and replaced it back into the slot incorrectly... 2 pins were bent, and I only realised something was wrong when I couldn't boot up... Was sweating like a fat boy in a sauna when I pulled out the CPU, and my fingers were covered in thermal paste :O ... Straightened the bent pins, prayed to God, and reinserted the CPU, correct way around this time... Re-attached the heatsink and fan, booted up... and it started... B-) ... hehehe :8} Now, it's cranked up to a stable 2.4Ghz :D ... whew... not bad considering I spent another $100 all up to get the 33% increase in system performance... Tad noisy now though... :( Lo.

God always has the answers . :D:p:D > Tad noisy now though . . . :( that's what u get for improvement in permormance . |

2002-10-24 07:31:00 | What chip is it that you have Lohsing. Is it one of the Northwood 1.8s? You should be able to get a figure like 2.4GHz on the stock HSF. Those v7+'s sure are noisy aern't they. I just switched mine down to low (from median) today. Considerably quieter.:D As for the pins, there are two which can be joined to give you more voltage. Hence it wouldn't matter quite so much if you snapped off those two pins. But it sure is freaky when stuff like that happens. I know of someone that dropped his and bent some pins, straightened them. Then somehow the dog or something ended up bending them again. He went outside and chucked the thing down the road :(.

2002-10-24 22:17:00 | Hey JM, Are all P4 1.8Ghz Northwoods or not? Could use a stock fan, as CPU temp at standard is 40deg celsius... running it at about 2.2Ghz, and stressing out the chip pushed it above 51deg... Don't you think this is a tad high?? Lo.

2002-10-24 22:31:00 | I'm running my 2.0 @ 2.6 using the lowest setting on the Volcano7+ and sits around 32 when I'm typing this message .. on cold nights it idles at 28 degrees .. and max out at 40 at full load. :D My server is a celeron 1.7 @ 2.1 using stock HSF and I sold my 1.6A to my flatmate which is running at 2.2 also using stock HSF :D All machines are stable as they're on 24/7 ...
