Yes lots of people update their antivirus, and i'm sure they get BSOD as well. No the two things are likely not related. OUr conversation on Java was to help Peter, your comments have been focused at has anyone had BSOD's so hence people have talked about that.
If you want a problem clariffied, Post it with a bit more clarification and with more details. Then we can help you out

92221 2002-10-25 20:12:00 Ok Peter so goto msconfig--> Static VxD
is AFVXD or VTDI in there?
if so, see what directory its coming from, and maybe disable it, or update the programme that this file comes from.
also have a search on your computer for
AFVXD and VTDI and note the directory

(2) Was your computer working great up until last month? answer "yes" or "no"

(3) This month did you get a lot of fatal exceptions, answer "yes" or "no"

(4) Are you confused how to came to get fatal exceptions, answer "yes" or "no"

(5) In the past week has your fatal exceptions gone away for no reason you can think of, answer "yes" or "no"

If you have answered "yes" to all these five question, then I was hoping to read your reply and respond to it, without first having the need to have cold shower to cool down . ,

Maybe next time I will add a questionnaire in to my posting to save the frustration .

92223 2002-10-25 20:50:00 Roofus, thanks for your help. Could not find anything in msconfig re VXD, but both files are in windows/system folder dated 23.04.99. I use selective start up & couldn't find either in Sys.ini or Win.ini How exactly do I find Static Vxd in msconfig?
Regards
Peter

92224 2002-10-25 21:04:00 Sorry, its not me that is not reading :)

The reason I said I didnt think that PressF1 had anything to do with BSODS was that several posters have said that their BSOD problems occur since the new PressF1and/or opening PressF1, and roofus suggested that it could be a Java problem associated with PressF1 and a non updated browser.

Sorry you had to SHOUT at me.

92225 2002-10-25 21:50:00 E . ric, please don't upset yourself unnecessarily over this matter . Some people, like myself, are a bit slow to figure out rather cryptic messages so it's no wonder that you've got answers totally different to what you were expecting . I don't run the same anti-virus as you and thus did not have your problems, but PF1 sometimes causes me problems so I naturally thought your question was related to that, as did Peter . :-)

In future I would suggest that instead of beating around the bush hoping that people will understand you and be thinking the same as you, that you actually spell out what your concerns are in the first place .

You really have caused a lot of frustration to yourself for nothing and possibly missed responses from people who did actually have the same problem as yourself but didn't know what you were talking about . Don't forget that we do have a lot of inexperienced computer users here .

It's very interesting what you have experienced and obviously there must have been a bug after one update which was fixed in the next one . It's bound to happen with computers . ;-)

92226 2002-10-26 03:14:00 Thanks again Susan - you have a way with words.
Roofus - doing a find for Static VxD found 3 called StaticDataSprite.class, in C/windows/Java/TrustLib/com - all dated 16/10/97. Seem all a bit old so could have some bearing on it.

92227 2002-10-26 03:35:00 Meant to add this earlier, but every time this has occured, unless I reboot, when trying to access F1 again,I get directed to IP 210-48-100-45 I have just done a trace on this and it is AONL-NZ - Aisia Online NZ. Only way I managed to clear it today was Susans favourite - the dreaded Spider. Use AdAware on a regular basis as well as Regclean, and neither of these has shown this up.
Back to the sunshine.

92228 2002-10-26 05:19:00 Well Peter as you see, those vxd's are from a java library, so your antivirus or pressf1 must be using a bit of it, and didn't talk to it right.

In Msconfig static Vxd is a tab, and you might see it under there (i'm not sure wether you were able to achieve this)
I don't believe you will find it under there though, i'd imagine it is been loaded from the registry.
Continue to watch your BSOD's and see if it continues to be the same vxd's if so then start a new thread explaining the problem and we shall try and work through it.
As for your Asia online thing, i can't help out out on that.
