If you do that properly before attaching the heatsink it should lower the temps a bit... Not all 1.8's are Northwoods. You can tell the difference by looking at what is written on top of the core. If it says 1.8A, then it's a Northwood. If it's just 1.8, then it's a Willamette, which don't overclock nearly so well as the Northwoods. |

| 92408 | 2002-10-24 22:42:00 | Okay .. I've actually posted this in another forum long time ago .. it is regarding to Volcano7+ HSF ... there are 4 white plastic tags that hold the black cpu holder down to the motherboard .. when u fit the volcano7+ u need to make sure that it is not sitting on one of the corners of those white tags. I'm suspecting the HSF and the CPU is not contacted properly .. I noticed this bcoz after I installed my volcano7+ the temp actually gone higer than the stock HSF.. so I start to investigate and found out the problem... anyway .. i took the HSF off and took those plastic white tags off and use a cutter to cut off the head of those tags .. and reinsert and wha la ! You probably don't need to cut the tag's head off... but you should make sure both CPU & HSF is closely contacted with thermal paste in between Cheers |

Also, the heatsink and CPU are connected properly... the guys at C-Tech reckon there's nothing wrong with the temperature... that it's more a case of the sensor on the board connected differently... the reckon the measurement can be subjective dependent on where the sensor is and whether it is physically touching, etc... Do you guys buy that? Lo. |
