2002-10-27 07:06:00 | is it "shared folder 1" or is it "shared folder1"? The space (or lack of it) is critical

2002-10-27 07:25:00 | Johnboy, The RD command should have now removed the folder you wanted. Now when you type DIR and press the enter key what is the directory information returned? (The shared folder1 has gone?) Cheers, Babe.

2002-10-27 08:00:00 | Johnboy, Firstly thank goodness that directory has gone. Now we'll try nd help with some of the other things... we'll try the dektop stuff first. Right mouse click on the blank desktop Click on the Properties option When the Display Properties window appears select the top tab named Themes Within that one select the Theme dropdown box and select the Windows XP theme and then click on the Apply button now the bottom right of the Display Properties window (don't close the window just yet) Next select the Desktop tab (near the top of the window) and from within the Background dropdown/list box select the Bliss option, again click on the Apply button. Next select the Appearance tab (near the top of the window) and from within Windows and Buttons dropdown box select Windows XP Style, from the Color Scheme dropdown box select Default(Blue), from the Font Size dropdown box select Normal. Again click on the Apply button. Now click on the OK button to close the Properties window. This should reset the desktop back to some sort of default (not necessarily the nicest but at least something workable). Please post back and we'll see where to go from there on the Start Menu etc. Cheers, Babe.

2002-10-27 08:20:00 | Gidday johnboy! Wow theres a lot of **** that people have put in Kazaa just to annoy the stuffing out of others.. The big one i found is files with a name like somethingreally huge_ i maeeannnnnnn really huge-so-damn-big-that-some-operating-systems-just-wont-deal-with-it-properly-and-cannot-rename-or-delete-this-file-atleast-win98-wont-so-i-swear-alot-instead-o-bugger.jpg How i dealt with it was to move every thing else to "new folder", delete "my shared folder" and then rename "new folder" to "my shared folder" Of course kazaa has to be off at the time. I see no reason why the same technique won't help you remove the offending file. Hope this helps .Clueless

2002-10-27 08:37:00 | Johnboy, I am presuming you have an account (username/id/password) on this same machine? If so why not just delete his user profile and create a new one? I think the virus/trojan you originally got has screwed up his profile to the extent that any more mucking around will be even more frustrating for you. If you want to be able to delet his user profile you will of course (should anyway) backup his personal files and bits 'n pieces before proceeding with the deletion. I'm not sure I can talk you through fixing each of the myriad little problems without one of us losing our hair or worse! :-) if you don't have an account on this machine maybe its time to think about having an extra 1 or 2. So your call Johnboy. Cheers, Babe.

2002-10-27 08:40:00 | Johnboy, Did you what i suggested? I just realised that just because i knew what i meant doesn't mean you will, so i rewrote it a bit. Its really easy, and it should work >How i dealt with it was to move every thing that i wanted to keep from "my shared folder" to "new folder", delete "my shared folder" and then rename "new folder" to "my shared folder" I'd be interested to know if this bypasses the problem, thus allowing you to delete the prat file.. Is there anywhere in the post where you said what operating system you are using? I'm sorry if did say, but i appear to have missed it!
