2002-10-25 04:32:00 | When 1 problem gets fixed, another seems to arise on this computer. I have posted here before asking ppl for help about my Games Problem, where the screen wouldnt stay at full screen, well thats all fixed, turned out that a program called touch manager was taking priority over them or something, anyway I just have to close it down when ever I use a game. But now my Cd rom drive is not working, I put in a cd and it reads it for a bit, stops wait a bit, reads it, stops, etc. until it gets to a point where the light just keeps flashing on the drive and my computer detects no cd rom in the drive. This problem first started a few days ago and I have tried uninstalling the cd rom drive and reinstalling it, no chnage, I have never had any trouble with it before except that sometimes it didn't use to detect a blank cd to write to, but you just had to open and close the drive to resolve that problem. I first noticed the problem when I inserted a cd in the drive that one of my friends had written for me. My rom drive is a 40x12x48 AOpen, If anyone can help me solve this problem I will be very very greatful, thankyou. | Ziggyman (1176) | |
2002-10-25 05:12:00 | Did anything else change on your system since the problems started occuring? I had pronlems burning cd's for a while - it gave me a media fault, even though i tried lots of types. I fixed this by downloading the latest firmware. This might help for you. Nic

2002-10-27 01:13:00 | Hey Martin! I dunno about this, but after I installed CDSpace the same thing happened, but about straight away a little thing poped up, saying found new hardware, and it was my actual CD Drive, and it reinstalled itself. When you go to my computer, is it listed there? if not Try going to add/remove hardware, and see if you can install the drivers or whatever you need again. Have you got a cd for your CD Drive? with like, a stup or something? Anyway, Its might not be CD Space, but i got rid of it anyway. Stuff virtual cds. Could it have been that CD i copied for you? Anyone know if that can happen? It seems my RW was the first CD that it happened to. (is that right martin?)

2002-10-27 06:36:00 | Cheers Jo, well my cd drive is listed, it just dont seem to know that there is a cd in the drive, I can go into the drive thing but notthing is listed, this happens with all my cds. I have had cd space for a long time now and never had a problem with it so far, but if anyone else thinks this may be the problem please post. And yes your disk was the first 1 it happened to, but how could it stuff up by drive completely? Also, my dad and I today took the 4 speed cd rom drive out of my old computer and put it in this 1 to test to see if it was a hardware fault, but the same sort of thing happened, only it could read a cd, but then if you put in another the files from the other cd were shown, I tried going refresh, and ejecting the disk, but no change. Also, after playing around with the cd settings, and turning the cd writing capabilitys off of my cd writer, i sometimes got an error while it "seemed" to be reading the disk, saying "D:\ is not accesible "The request could not be performed "because of an I/O device error" I tried getting the latest firmware from the manufacturers site but it made no difference at all. I have also tried rolling back the system to before the problem, again with no effect. Somebody please help me, my parents are starting to get annoyed and want me to start deleating my things, reconing that it will some how help. Thanks for any help you can give

2002-10-27 07:11:00 | Have you tried cleaning your laser head, because that would seem to be the next most likely cause (after software), or alternatly, by probably unlikely if you don't play around in you computer internals, maybe a loose ide/scsi cable. I don't know anything about cleaning laser heads though, if you go ahead with that you should probably seek the advise of someone who knows about that. | SaAB (1292) | |

2005-11-05 00:56:00 | How's it going fellas. Ziggyman, our computers seem to be suffering from the same things. 1. Video games show up in a small window surrounded by black, not matter what the resolution is. 2. I have the same crackling sound that I had no idea what it was until you said it is your modem, though I use an external DSL modem. 3. My d: drive shows up and shows a driver, yet it won't read cd's and gives an I/O device error when I try to run d:. These are the only major problems my computer suffers, but I can't seem to fix them. I thought they originated when my laptop was plugged in at my college house without a surge protector and lighting struck exteremely close. Along with my beloved XBox, my laptop seemed fried. I slowly doctored it from not getting passed DOS to running pretty well, except for these problems. It could be a coincidence that we are having the same problems, not sure though. The most pressing matter is reading CD's though, I'll keep checking this thread for a solution. P.S. I go to Georgia Institute of Technology and play rugby there. I started playing last year and it blows all the mainstream sports over here in the US out of the water. Oh yeah, and Old Blacks rule, long live the Haka.
