| 93140 | 2002-10-26 01:30:00 | im on dial up, and for some reason, lately its getting connected at a crap as connection speed (used to connect at 50000+ bps, now it connects at around 26000 bps, even if i try to connect several times, nothings changed lately, except for the fact im behind about 2 months in isp fees ?:|) so now, since im having to live with this, i a wanting to download an 11 MB file as fast as possible, is there a way to use all of the 'bandwidth' (?:|) on just the download?, the speeds it downloads at are like 2K, etc, waaasy too slow, and im using a download manager, have optimized the mtu, etc, but no change grtz sal. tga |

| 93141 | 2002-10-26 01:36:00 | With 26000 connect speed, you will only get in the 2 - 3 K range 26,000kb/s / 8 = 3.25 Kb/s, less about 10% - 15% for overheads is in the area of 2.7 KB/s If the file you are downloading is already compressed then no further gain can be had. Telecom may have digitally split your line to allow another phone connection down the street, it will halve your connect speed. |

However, if you don't live in a rural area, the reason may be that there is noise on the phone lines, preventing you from connecting at your usual speeds. You may want to call Telecom to find out what exactly is going on... |

| 93146 | 2002-10-26 21:13:00 | is there a way to use all of the > 'bandwidth' (?:|) on just the download? Best speeds are often obtained by ftp - if the site you want to download from has anonymous ftp, use something like WS_FTP and don't run your browser at the same time. |
