| 92995 | 2002-10-25 09:52:00 | I haven't had an Nortons Antivirus update for a few weeks now. Am I missing something? Or has there really been no definition updates for that long? I've even checked for updates manually, still nothing. My subscription runs out in about 40 days time. Like to hear from anybody who's in the same situation. Cheers David |

| 92996 | 2002-10-25 10:13:00 | David, There certainly have been updates for Nortons... in fact most of the AV companies had a large number of updates out in the last few weeks. The latest Nortons' one is dated 24th Oct 2002 on their site. (Use another AV product myself) Babe. |

| 92997 | 2002-10-25 19:19:00 | www.symantec.com Go to the Nortons download page and click on the Virus Definition Updates and locate from the list the update most applicible to your version and operating system and download it, it will be a exe file. Save the exe file maybe to your desktop and run from there and that should update your AV. |

Running XP Home with Nortons 2002 but since loading SP1 about 6 weeks ago virus definitons "ready to download" messages are no longer appearing. When going to Norton to download manually there is nothing to download but the date changes as if it had done so. Live Update is set to run in "Interactive Mode" Have rung 1800 number at Nortons twice but after the usual run around and 1hour on phone I couldnt explain to the operator in his terms what was happening so advice was of no use(well, I am very inexperienced in these matters!) Am very interested in any replies you get on this very informative site |

| 92999 | 2002-10-25 20:31:00 | Have you tried the link I left in a previous message and visit the Nortons site directly rather than manually using live update and from there list of available updates download the one that best applies to your OS and version of Nortons. It will be a exe file that you will double click to apply. Interactive Mode as I understand it is it detects updates and advises you and you then allow the program to download them. By changing to Express Mode, Nortons detects and downloads updates without advising you first is my understanding. I am still running NAV2001 but in there is a Options Tab, go in there and check what is ticked/not ticked and see if there is anything in there that could affect your updates. |

| 93001 | 2002-10-25 21:22:00 | Another way to see if it is really updating is to open Nortons and look for Reports / View the List of virus's you are being protected against. The Bugbear was a fairly recent addition to the world of virus's, look for a entry called W32.Bugbear@mm . If that is in there you could be reasonably well upto date. Or as Tweak suggested, uninstall Nortons and remove any entries from the reg and then reinstall and start over fresh. |

| 93002 | 2002-10-26 04:53:00 | Thanks Tucabia for confirming that it was the SP1 for Windows XP that altered the fact that the liveupdates were happening without the "ready to download message" and seeking approval to download which I used to receive. It is annoying to have files being downloaded without control of them happening. You can tell the updates have in fact downloaded by looking in Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Virusdefs. For example folder 20021023.* contains definitions for 23/10/02. | Oxie (1318) | ||
| 93003 | 2002-10-26 05:55:00 | Yip, I've also been experiencing the same problems. I'm running W98se on AMD K6/2 550 with 64Mb RAM. It seems that the only way to remedy the problem is to uninstall the NAV and reinstall. Only I haven't removed any entries in the registry. Afterwards, upon reinstallation NAV picked up on the previous installation and kept all my preferences and settings. I had to update the whole lot, though, which took me much longer, but afterwards it's been updating like clockwork. | barco (2344) | ||
