93072 2002-10-25 22:56:00 I wish to replace my old zone alarm version 2.1.44 with the current 3.1.291. Do I have to delete the old version or will the new one automatically overwrite it?

I'm still using W95 by the way

93073 2002-10-25 23:32:00 zonealarm no longer support win95. i think the 2.8 ver still works well with 95. thelatest ver of ZA has a few bugs.

93074 2002-10-26 00:54:00 Hi bonzo29
1st, as a 6 year user of win95, then briefly win98, and now for awhile winXP, may I suggest - Don't knock win95! Later versions of windows introduced fun but also drama and mayhem. Think of win95 as winXP with all the unnecessary stuff striped out. If someone had access to the code of win95 and spent some serious time fixing it's few bugs they'd be on to a solid winner. end-of-rave.
I can't see a ZoneAlarm upgrade being of any use to you. You don't have the winXP holes to plug. Similar to windows, my observation of ZoneAlarm is - they started with a damn good idea, and further versions either fixed the odd bug, or fix incompatibility issues with later windows versions.
You didn't mention why you wanted to upgrade ZoneAlarm, but unless you really have to, I'd suggest you don't.
My approach is, if it ain't broke, ...
Do you have your original dload, or maybe your original source? (eg a NZPCWorld CD-ROM)
If you have had ZA running fine, but are now having new problems, may I suggest you re-install your original copy.
But to answer your actual question...
Looks to me like, if you have problems with ZA, best to uninstall first (and reboot). If you want to retain your original copy's settings, best to 'overwrite'. ie leave your original version installed, and run the new version's installation.

The end of this note is a C&Paste from a readme.txt that came with my version2.6
Morri

"If you’ve previously run ZoneAlarm or ZoneAlarm Pro and are installing a new version, the installer will now ask you if you’d like to delete the program settings and configurations from your previous installation and start with default settings. This is highly recommended if you have been experiencing problems with the previous version. If you delete the previous settings, you will lose all program settings and other configurations and you will revert to the default settings that come standard with the product when freshly installed. Most users are able to successfully install a newer product version over a previously run version without having to delete their previous settings."

93075 2002-10-26 01:28:00 Thanks tweak'e and Morri. no problems with old version, just wanted to be up with the latest especially when it's free! bonzo29 (2348)
93076 2002-10-26 05:52:00 There is a version3.1.395. Be very wary and ensure you read the website re cleansing required. I updated to 3.1.395 and got Desktop icons flicking white plus some disturbing hard drive noises. FrankS (257)
93077 2002-10-26 06:25:00 The new ZA version created conflicts on my PC (ME) with the sound quality of different applications, like my voice chat and Media Player etc. Danger (287)
