Months ago my zip drive failed with the Click of Death. I bought a new one and finally got around to installing it tonight.

It's working BUT it thinks it's a B: drive 3.5" floppy.

Properties show the disk as having 96Mb free (with a bit used), a text file on the disk opened with no problems.

Same ribbon cable as the CD,
CD set to master, zip set to slave.

Any ideas?

92949 2002-10-25 08:40:00 Snap!

Sorry Heather, but I can not help you! I do sympathise however as I have the same problem. I have W95C. Was about to post something here as I have exhausted most options. Google tells about it but doesn't have a remedy apart from making the zip a master. Since the old zip came off a slave that doesn't make sense. Making it the master is not an option in my case. You may also notice that the zip works a lot slower when used as B drive.

I have tried several versions of Iomega software. Checked the BIOS. Uninstalled and cleared any trace of the previous install I could find. Still no luck. Iomega site does not help.

Darn!

92950 2002-10-25 08:50:00 Bits I missed (too many distractions tonight)

The computer has been reformatted since I last had a zip drive working.
I'm not sure if it's on the same cable as the old one was.

I haven't installed any software - none came with so I assumed none was needed. (Time to investigate the drawer for an old disk?)

It worked in the past.

92951 2002-10-25 09:32:00 Can't help with your problem but I remember that grc.com (http://grc.com) have a program that does something or other to do with the zip drives click of death.
Just a thought but have you set B: to nothing in the bios.

92952 2002-10-25 09:37:00 Checked the BIOS, B set to nothing, got it to double check the hard drives - only picked up C:

Have just finished downloading something from the Iomega site. Will see if this works.

92953 2002-10-25 09:38:00 Hello mikebartnz. My Bios is set to nothing already for b:! I can force a drive change by making the Bios think there is already a b: drive but the computer gets real confused about a: drive!! Had to change back as we do use a: for some stuff.

Thanks anyway.

92954 2002-10-25 16:05:00 If you have a Motherbard with a VIA chipset it would be best to install the VIA 4 in 1 driver. Elephant (599)
92955 2002-10-25 19:34:00 I have IomegaWare installed on my pc. I know if you go to the ZipDrive's properties, there's a Drive Letter Manager tab. It allows you to change the drive letter using a drop-down menu. Not sure if that's the solution. glenn (177)
92956 2002-10-25 20:14:00 Bryan,

Downloaded the zip software last night from the Iomega site but couldn't install due to husband playing on-line chess (my computer is the gateway to the Net for the network).

This morning I installed it and tried changing B: to F: - but on restart it reset to B:

Have just been back to the Iomega site and found this article: www.iomega.com

Have printed it and am about to try it out. Will let you know how it goes.

92957 2002-10-25 20:17:00 Hi,
Try this one .....................
enter your bios, set up your IDE devices, for the Zip Drive set it to "Not Installed" if your bios has the option to do so ..........................

also install the iomegaware from their site ....................
