| 93510 | 2002-10-28 22:12:00 | set up a multiboot system 98 then XP on 2 partitions like i have also dont install SP 1 it creates all sorts of problems . just use the small security patch available on the net I also use the latest XP compatible Go Back program so I can undo most of the tweaks installations of new software etc that go wrong almost on a daily basis for me as well . I also use performance test to gauge if my efforts have been worth while take ages but my duron 1.2 now works at about 20% faster than it did prior to my tuneup using the bios and the latest patches and driver updates now all I need is to upgrade my old Geforce 256 its a never ending cycle this upgrading habit I just stay away from the bleeding edge as its far too expensive all my hardware is about 1 year behind as others upgrade i pick up their hardware usually at half the cost also go to more forum groups and see others reactions experiences with new updates before using them yourself appparently 10% or so people have real problems with SP 1 and Microsoft have basically rushed out a bloated and buggy download. I used Windows ME once to update my WIN 98 sec (never again!!)and that make me ultra cautious about trusting new software thats slower and buggy |
