93466 2002-10-27 07:34:00 I have a Pentuim 120 that had a CD ROM installed and running. It was removed for a while and when I refitted it , the computer no longer regonizes it. in the BIOS setup the only choices are 'none' and 'user' and the CD ROM is not detected using either of these. There is no option of using 'auto'. If I install another hard drive it is detected automaticly everytime but it wont detect the CD ROM at all. I have tried another known good CD ROM but the same problems happen. If I select any of the 'user' options the boot up stops and gives error messages about drive failure etc.
can anybody suggest anything to remedy this problem ????

93469 2002-10-27 09:44:00 maybe the connectors are damaged on the hdd, they might have been damaged when u moved them or just by age, if u tried diff. cd drives then it's highly probable that the connectors on the hdd are damaged. That could be the reason why even BIOS can't recognise the drive.

93472 2002-10-28 07:44:00 Hi Will
Silly question. you have set up the jumper on the CDRom to suit the channel?(master/slave).

Have a look in the Device Manager just to check on conflicts, driver screwups etc., or even if it is recognised.

Check the same out in safe mode, I've sometimes found numerous installations of the same item that wern't apparent in ordinary mode.

Get rid of them all, and start afresh.

Hope it helps.
