94128 2002-10-29 05:23:00 Hi

I was just wondering, I want to back up some of my PS cds . THis is because some of them seem to be scratch quite bad and quite old as well . So I just want to make sure that if the old PS cds breaks, I could still have a copy to play with .

So what I'm really trying to say is that, what do I need to do to or how do I copy PS cds to another cd with a CD writer? what do I need to look out for etc . I have a CD writer and some blank cds and Nero for the burning software, do I need anything else?

P . s I not copying PS to sell (I know that is illegal) or to give friends(illegal too I think), I just really want to back some of my old PS games . And right now it is bloody hard to find good old classic PS games in shops .

Thanks alot :)

94130 2002-10-29 06:24:00 You could try Clone CD. Do a google search.

94131 2002-10-29 06:26:00 u don't need any additional software, except a modchip installed on ur playstation that enables it to play cdrs(pirate cds:D). then it will work. Just copy a cd how u would a normal cd disc then there u have it.

cheers,

94132 2002-10-29 06:29:00 You Need a mod chip and clone CD. Copyed disks will not work with out a MOD CHIP. BootyLicious (526)
94133 2002-10-29 06:30:00 The only way to get it to run backups is by getting it chipped (while its still legal).

Then I think you still need something like CloneCD and a CD writer that supports RAW mode.

94134 2002-10-29 06:39:00 The laws a grey, but depending on your lawer, it is legal to backup PS cds that you own.

Here's how to do it:

1- modchip your PS. There are two basic types - the standard and the stealth. Some later games can detect if you have a modchip and refuse to play. If your games are old, get the standard installed for $30. To check out which games can be copied, go to www.megagames.com (www.megagames.com). There's more good info there as well.

2- download CloneCD from here (elby.ch). This works best, and I have tried a few others and made a few frisbees.

3- Follow the instructions. Often CD-ROM drives make better readers than CD-RW drives, so watch that. Also, do everything at 1x speed.. Do not be tempted to go whole hog and burn at 12x cos you'll get another coaster. Also, get a good brand of CD-R. I found Warewhare stationary 'Melody' CDs work OK, Mr. Data do not. Also make sure you defrag, defrag, then defrag. Oh yea you'll need at 700mb free max.

94135 2002-10-29 07:19:00 Agree with all above, melody CD's are good - and cheap -$1.00 a pop. Noticed today that tricky Dicky also have them at this price.

94136 2002-10-29 07:24:00 Tricky Dicky? We call him other things. Unfortunately, where else in NZ can you buy a 400k pot, or 30uF cap, or even breadboard??? SoniKalien (792)
94137 2002-10-29 08:20:00 mmm.... Havery Norman on the shore have 10 for $5 in a spindle.. Just as good quality as melody! I used melody for a while, but I dunno... They didnt seem as good for older CD-ROM drives as others. If you want full compatibilty with ALL drives, the only CD-R I've seen is the 650MB Kodak Silver+Gold!
