| 94089 | 2002-10-29 04:00:00 | My Monitor crashed and I've been using a borrowed one. Now I want to maybe buy a TFT ($$$$) but will it be compatible with a P2 @233 with S3 vga card Or would I be running into problems and should stick with a new tube monitor ? |

In some ways TFT are less demanding as their refresh rates are low (there is no flicker with a TFT so no need for fast refresh rates) BUT TFTs usually have native resolution of 1024 x 768, so make sure your video card can display this first, at your desired colour depth (you should be able to test it on a CRT monitor) It is NOT A GOOD IDEA to run the TFT at resolution below their native setting as the interpolation can give a lower quality than you would expect. At native settings they are MUCH better than a CRT. I run 2 TFTs here as a dual display. A 15" is equivalent to a 17" CRT in display area. Prices have dropped a lot, but you still get what you pay for. Cheap looks cheap against a quality one. Lifetime is less than a CRT. |
