| 94050 | 2002-10-29 11:11:00 | Hi all, In the late 50's early 60's,there was a bounty on possums of 2shillings&sixpence, for a strip of the pelt,9"longX2"wide to include both ears. There was also a bounty on Kea's but not sure how much. You had to present a beak! Cheers,Kiwitas,;-) |

| 94052 | 2002-10-29 16:55:00 | My "new immigrant" experiences: reading through the insurance policy we were about to sign and saying to my Kiwi-born wife: "hey, do you know we've got an 'opossums' clause: we are insured against "opossums intruding into the property and causing loss or damage..." "What's wrong with that? I'm glad there is one." "But it sounds almost like Monty Python..." Then the first time I heard one outside our bedroom window at night: "There's somebody out there, and it sounds like they're dying". "It's a possum, go back to sleep". No, I don't know how many there are: but we do our bit to try to stop it increasing; two houses on from that first flat, and our balcony seems a favourite venue for possum-bonking. When we hear them at it, they get chased off with a loud noise ofr a missile - but they probably just go somewhere else and get on with it. Argus |

LOL argus, you made me spray my breakfast all over the screen again! :D [note to godfather: I'm a bit earlier than last time ;-)] If the damn things weren't so destructive they'd be cute - I've heard a lot of funny stories about them critters . And if they weren't riddled with TB they'd be a good petfood source like rabbits are . The Boy gets $2 each for his rabbits and normally makes $40 pocket money for himself each trip . Geez Liam, you're a bit of a hard case bringing this topic into a PC forum, aren't you?! Hubby was gobsmacked . :D |
