94007 2002-10-29 05:27:00 I got an eyeful from looking up info on motherboards and the guy who had the info had his site sponsered by some porn outfits, with appropriate pictures. future (1979)
94008 2002-10-29 05:40:00 Why not demonstrate to the teacher in question how this happened? Why not code up some pages that open some pop-ups when opened? Maybe it will help your friend with his position. segfault (655)

You're having us on!

How professional is that guy. Must have been running his biz on the cheap

What is worse, I have in the past arranged a conference on the effects of porn and how to get free if you are addicted to it. I could just imagine someone seeing me [just like the student was who inspired this post]. Who is going to believe my story about motherboards?

94011 2002-10-29 08:52:00 It's a difficult one isn't it?

Say I am an Art student and want a copy of XXXXX's "Nude on a Sofa" for example.

How is filtering software going to work out the difference?

Many people want to filter Spam for example but we haven't come up with a program that will do that all by itself. You, ( or Family ) have to create rules of some sort.

I am reminded of the TV.. If I get offended by what is on there I use the OFF button or change channels.

Remember that you can access heaps of information in this day and age.

People blame the Internet for this but in MY day and age I could learn how to make an Explosive in my local library.

Do we ALL want to protected by the Goverment from BAD things or is it time we just used the OFF button?

94012 2002-10-29 09:36:00 Yeah there are always going to be some things that will get blacked that shouldn't and some that don't get blocked that should be.

We use WatchDog at the college I'm at, they're an ISP that blocks the stuff.

When we needed to get an image at the start of the year we used images.google.com, then that got blocked so we used images.google.co.nz, now we have to use images.google.co.uk.

We had to use newsgroups for one part of the course we were doing. We had to hunt around until we found one that wasn't blocked.

Other times you can end up with stuff their that should not be allowed.
