94149 2002-10-29 06:32:00 My "old" Telecom Economy phone (Model 810) refuses to ring when connected via a microfilter. I don't want to replace the phone.
What should I do?

94150 2002-10-29 06:39:00 replace the phone or don't use ADSL

:D

94151 2002-10-29 07:05:00 Replace phone might be a viable option.
Can't live without ADSL, even though its limited to 128kbit/s or 16KBytes/sec.

94152 2002-10-29 07:59:00 some of the phone jacks have components that allow a silly pointless 3 wire system that feeds the ring circut... it's completely pointless, but none the less this is what some of the component seen behind the "master" jack are for.

This concept is obsolete, and now we use a more sensible 2 wire system.

I suggest you find a "master jack" and wire it in for the older phone

94153 2002-10-29 08:11:00 My British Telecom phone refused to do the same following installation of a Dynalink filter/router.

And before anyone has the temerity to guess that it's probably incompatibility between the BT phone and Telecom, well, your wrong.

Trust me - I have multiple internet degrees in everything usefully useless.

So, I bought a new filter from DSE and an adaptor (you'll see why if you choose to follow the same route - excuse the pun) and viola, phone rings and download speeds have tripled.

Not.

At least the phone will now ring whilst online using the DSE filter/adaptor.

So, the gist of all of that is, buy another brand of filter/adaptor.

Good luck ................................................

94154 2002-10-29 08:19:00 I use a double-adaptor to connect the phone and ADSL modem together. If I buy a DSE filter, it won't connect to my ADSL modem because its a normal BT plug, not a RJ11 plug. The ADSL side of the DSE filter needs a RJ11 plug which I don't have right now utopia (2200)
94155 2002-10-29 09:08:00 at least you can get ADSL :D

but..there are fibre optics running down our road as loop
If only..we were a business customer with $1000 grand a month to pay it off :D :D

94156 2002-10-30 09:13:00 As Clueless said,it is probably using an old 3 wire secondary jack. You probably won't find a 3 wire master very easily, but a 2 wire may work,as they have the capacitor in them to make the phone ring,so try that.

94157 2002-10-30 09:36:00 There is an ETH/TBR switch on the back of the phone. Its set to TBR right now.
Would setting it to ETH make a difference?

2 words:
demolition yards

(the older style 3 wire master has 3 components on the back on a wee printed circut board, just hook up connections 2 and 5 which are the middle of each of the 2 sets of 3 connections to the line, either way round.)
