| 1319685 | 2012-12-22 04:26:00 | Hi I'm trying to find some new RAM for my PC, I found this (www.gskill.com) which seems to have really good specs and is a reasonable price ($125) compared with similar products (and it matches my PCs color scheme :D). However on the website it states this RAM is compatible with Intel Z77 / Z75 / Z68 / P67 chipsets but it doesn't list the chipset I am using (I have a P55 based motherboard with a Core I7 860 CPU). Is this RAM compatible with P55 motherboards? My motherboard (Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD4P (www.gigabyte.co.nz)) states it supports RAM speeds of 2200/1600/1333/1066/800 MHz (the above RAM uses 2133Mhz) but on the Qualified Vendors List (download.gigabyte.ru) for my motherboard it lists RAM, that use 2133Mhz, as working with this motherboard so I'm not sure which I should believe, will this board support 2133Mhz RAM? Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks. |

| 1319688 | 2012-12-22 23:42:00 | If the ram manufacturer doesn't say it will work with the P55 chipsets it most likely won't work. What your mobo means is that is supports the 2133Mhz speed, but if the RAM doesn't support the chipset, it won't work. | Nick G (16709) | ||

| 1319690 | 2012-12-23 06:32:00 | It'd probably work but there's no way to be 100% sure without trying it. There's really no need to use high specced RAM though, it makes so little difference to overall performance you may as well get whatever the standard RAM speed is for that Board / CPU I think stock for an 860 is 1333. Sure fast RAM is nice, but it has less effect than almost any other component - providing you have enough of it and it's running in dual channel mode. Something like this www.pp.co.nz or this www.pp.co.nz would be fine and I seriously doubt you could notice or even measure the difference for any normal home use. |
