2012-08-16 15:29:00 | Conceivably, could a keyboard run through the NFC connex? | SurferJoe46 (51) | |
2012-08-16 22:18:00 | Not in any practical way. You could use a Bluetooth keyboard though, if you're wanting to connect a keyboard to your Nexus 7.

2012-08-16 22:36:00 | but you could use NFC to pair the keyboard? Not really, due to the range of NFC.

2012-08-17 00:26:00 | Pairing wouldn't depend on range. The device could be authenticated using NFC easily. I stand corrected. Although, given the range, I am right in assuming it would be impractical to keep the connection?

2012-08-17 01:20:00 | What we need is a keyboard with a small patch-antenna from the keyboard that one can slip under the Nexus as it's being used. I hear a patentable device here.

2012-08-17 04:21:00 | SJ: Just use a bluetooth keyboard - it's dead easy to set up, reliable, and has a range of several metres. For the purposes of connecting a keyboard to your tablet, ignore NFC completely - it's not what NFC was designed for. Plod / Nick / TEG: Bluetooth already has pairing / authentication etc built-in; there's no reason to reinvent the wheel over a vastly inferior interface (NFC is slow and has a very short range) unless you're trying to do things like obviate user input when pairing. I'm not aware of any production hardware / software that has this capability, although it's certainly feasible, and there may be devices around that can do this.
