| 1294756 | 2012-08-14 10:16:00 | So my car over the last 3 weeks has been giving me inconsistent fuel guage readings. Say I have half a tank it. Turn the car off come back in a couple hours and itl be like halfway between quarter and half, then next time itl be back up half a tank. Then it could sit there for a while then drop to quarter which would be about right for the k's I have done. The fuel light also usually comes on just under quarter of a tank but occassionally will wait until its dam near empty before it does. Chch has had sh*t weather for ages so I don't think it's a temperature thing, doesnt seem to matter if car is cold or warm. Would a dying tank sensor cause this? I'm trying to keep track of the kpl I am doing and this is making it hard! The trip computer lies about everything so I go by actual figures. |

| 1294759 | 2012-08-14 13:31:00 | I have a Honda Accord US Wagon which does much the same thing. If I put in $40 worth at below 1/4 tank the gauge drops to empty, stays there for a day or two then becomes normal. If I put in $60 worth it usually reads Ok. I put this down to a worn patch in the sender unit. The level fluctuates a lot, I put this down to the sender unit being on one side of the tank and the level changing with the angle the car is on. I reset the odometer when I've refueled, & at 18.8Kms per litre it is just about right. On my Honda the tank has to removed to get at the sender unit, so I have done nothing about it. I believe that the Japanese Accords have an access hole under the rear seat. | mzee (3324) | ||

No matter what vehicle I have owned or driven I only use the Fuel gauge as a guide to what "MAY BE LEFT" in the tank. The worst situation are those cars where the fuel gauge sits at empty for ages and the Fuel Light bulb (if fitted) has blown. If you trying to work out the fuel efficancy of your vehicle there is only one sure way of doing that and this is to visual fill the vehilce to the top of the filler and record the KMs between fuel fill to the top of the filler. Otherwise your guessing! |

| 1294762 | 2012-08-15 00:50:00 | My fuel gauge is absolutely FUBAR ... fill it up and drive 50K's it reads E ... I take to mean E = Enough ... F = F@rk all. Can't be bothered fixing it so now work on the odometer + carry 5 litres to get me out of trouble ... I have not had to use it yet as I fill up regularly. |

The car has two tanks though so Im guessing that means 2 senders? Geeze attitude! I'm trying to keep track of the kpl I am doing and this is making it hard! Gave me the impression you was looking at the fuel usage/economy of the vehicle, economy meaning how much fuel is being used . A twin tank might not mean two senders as the sender will be located in a location of the fuel tank to give a reading of what remains in the tank, however it can cause misreadings because of that . |

Generally a break in one of the 'squiggles' on the sender unit. 4092 Generally a replacement unit required, anything from $40 - $400 however some very, very fancy soldering could fix it too. |
