1294667 2012-08-14 01:01:00 Hi, I know this may be a pro Android forum :D But I am wanting some neutral view on (free) app support. I am trying to learn another language and someone showed me their iPad, it has audio/visual teaches you how to write as well and the pronunciation. Various other quizes/games also. Probably targeted for a 4yr old but it suits my level, lol. For those type of apps how is the Androids like? Is it on the same quality level ie., polished level? Nomad (952)
1294668 2012-08-14 01:18:00 Wouldn't surprise me if it was :)

It's a relatively open-ended question though... and you've also not mentioned which language you're trying to learn.

For example:
play.google.com
play.google.com
play.google.com
play.google.com

There's a gold mine of apps out there to say the least! :) Just go through play.google.com and see if you can find something that tickles your fancy.

1294669 2012-08-14 01:22:00 I've found them both to be pretty good. With android you just have to spend more time looking through the play store to find good apps than you do on IOS. Nick G (16709)
1294670 2012-08-14 01:38:00 Most of the quality apps are available on both platforms. Google Play also has a higher number of lower-quality apps, in addition to the quality stuff, which is both good and bad. inphinity (7274)
1294671 2012-08-14 02:33:00 Ok, mandarin chinese and maybe japanese. Maybe less in tourist phrases but more in the proper learning of a language.

Putting hardware specs aside, just from a consumer device point of view.

As for a high end phone, have a look at the Galaxy Nexus, HTC One X and the Galaxy S3. Find one that takes your fancy and roll with it :)

1294673 2012-08-14 04:00:00 Google has just added a foreign language update (http://googletranslate.blogspot.co.nz/) (Google's blog) using OCR. It uses the camera, then brush over the text to translate. kahawai chaser (3545)
1294674 2012-08-14 04:49:00 Looking for a Pad than a Phone :)
A phone would be too fiddly sitting there for an hour or so learning ...

Not looking for a handy tool or a tourist pal. More to actually learn how to write and speak.
