| 1294211 | 2012-08-12 09:03:00 | howdy folks! We have a fisher & paykel modernmaid dryer (thats about 30years old) and it is making a slightly grinding noise and is tripping the RCD outlet when it runs for a few seconds. Anyone know what this could be? cheers |

My 33 yr old dryer has been making screeching noises for the last 7 years. Tripping the circuit breaker though......that's an electrical fault. |

Tripping the circuit breaker though......that's an electrical fault. pctek is right on the nail! It is an electrical fault (probably promoted by a mechanical failure) but it is unsafe and also unlikely to be a handyman repair unless it is something obvious that has fallen off and is intermittently shorting power to ground. Good job you have an RCD, that fault is a potential killer because the drier cabinet is almost certainly livened in the brief moment before the RCD trips, and in the presence of water etc that makes for a much higher danger level. Could be that a motor bearing has collapsed allowing ground contact with motor windings. Either get it fixed by a professional, or cut the power cord off then dump it. Cheers Billy 8-{) |
