1294149 2012-08-12 10:09:00 I use Computer Food too for our mono lasers and my A3 photo inkjet if I happen to not taken advantage of adding in a spare cartridge thru the USA transaction. Computer Food is down to a dollar difference amongst other online consumable stores .. We just use the original stuff. These online stores are maybe 1/3 generally cheaper than High Street shops but overseas is half as cheap again not incl the postal. :D Nomad (952)
1294150 2012-08-12 11:50:00 Normal Black text - Laser, lasts a long time mines only a basic Brother, averages 6 reams of paper per toner.

Colour - unless doing photo quality, colour laser - the prints are damn good, price per print is lower than ink. Toners last a long time, mine still going after 3 years and the prices have dropped quit a bit for a basic Colour laser.

Example: Brother HL3040CN around $335, rated at 1,400 pages @ 5% coverage for colour. Basically 3 reams of A4 paper

1294152 2012-08-12 12:32:00 Also it pays not to let the cartridge get too empty as the ink level may not reset when you fill it up so the printer can still think it's empty and refuse to print.
There is a way to reset the ink level. At least there is for my HP. It involves covering two contacts then inserting into the printer then doing the same with the other side.

1294153 2012-08-12 20:53:00 With ink cartridges the cheapest is not always the best. In my quest to find cheap ways of doing it on the cheap side I have gone back to using the printer manufactuers ink ie Canon. Filling your own is far to messy, you get ink all over your hands and also other places. Using refill cartridges I have found that if you don't do alot of printing, say printer not used for more than 6 weeks the jets on the cartridge have become blocked and you have to throw them out.

I'm still on my first toner . Last December the 'toner' light came on, so I did this ( . be/hPCGZZIdXyM" target="_blank">youtu . be) and it's still going . Save more than a few bucks :)

1294155 2012-08-12 23:22:00 I think I posted this a while back, but I recently bought a Samsung Colour Laser for less than the cost of one replacement colour cartridge for my old Epson C1100 laser. I think the Samsung was sub-$200 on special at the Stationery Warehouse The Epson starter cartridges lasted me 6 years so I reckon that by the time I have to replace the Samsung cartridges I'll be able to repeat the exercise at a similar cost. Judging by the 'special' prices I see, it looks like you can probably buy a new inkjet printer for less than the cost of a new set of ink cartridges as well.

On that basis a Colour laser has now become a very affordable option, and with lasers you get a fair warning when the toner is getting low because the image gets streaky. If you then take the cartridge out and shake it to redistribute the residual toner, you get quite a few more pages before it quits on you

My main colour printer before that was a Canon iP4200 and although not a particularly thirsty model, it still soaks up the ink at a ferocious rate. A guy on a UK Forum I belong to recently offered his stock of spare cartridges free, so I took him up on the offer and got enough to see the printer out! I can't imagine why he had so many, but I guess he was doing a heck of a lot of printing!

My mono Laser is an HP1200 and even with all my kids' High School and Uni printing plus my business, one cartridge lasts years so that is probably 6-7 reams or more.

Cheers

1294156 2012-08-14 10:16:00 I have been using cartridges from: www.inkvenus.co.nz/ as reccomended in a post on F1. They print fine and have no trouble sitting around for weeks at a time between uses.

ps they are cheap
