There's something wrong with that.

It wasn't totally under water.
Even if it was, wouldn't you at least try and pull your kids out? Even if they had inhaled water and weren't responding?
They do that all the time at beach rescues, mouth to mouth and often they revive, they sure don't stop until for sure, or even not bother unless the person was in the water for hours and hours.

So you don't even try, you just run off down the road? what, the place didn't have a phone?

1294400 2012-08-13 04:42:00 Yes, I don't see why he wouldn't try either. I guess panic maybe, but really, trying to see if you can get them out quickly should have come first. Just like in a fire, you get your family out before calling 111. Nick G (16709)
1294401 2012-08-13 04:49:00 people do stupid things when under pressure or emergency. Seems strange but you know media, it is probably all wrong Gobe1 (6290)
1294402 2012-08-13 05:13:00 I though it a bit odd too, either media reporting incorrectly or the guy must have been in shock and not thinking straight. Either way a terrible tragedy. :( wratterus (105)

1294404 2012-08-13 06:46:00 "Police said today it was unclear how the car came to roll into the pond or whether the father had been in it at the time.

Afterwards, the father began to run to his home on the road but turned around and ran to a friend's place several kilometres away to alert emergency services about 7pm.

Sergeant Russell Glue, of Hokitika police, was first to the scene and spotted the Toyota Hilux four-wheel drive almost completely submerged in the pond, the pump still going.

He waded into the murky waist-deep water with colleague Senior Sergeant Allyson Ealam, office in charge of West Coast police response, to check the car, expecting both children would be drowned. "

Nah...dodgy.

Nah...dodgy.Car was upside down. It's not the first time you have jumped the pctek. I remember a while ago you blaming a teenage driver for killing an older driver. Turned out to be the other way around

+1 Nothing like a good jump to a conclusion.

1294408 2012-08-13 08:41:00 ...Glue smashed its rear window with equipment from the Hokitika volunteer fire brigade...The fact they required equipment to get into the vehicle is probably a reasonable indicator that the father was unable to get into the car on his own.

This is a tragedy, no question about it - let's not jump to conclusions (and especially not assign blame) when we don't have all the facts.
