94530 2002-11-01 08:02:00 The old 'my OS is better than yours' argument rears it's ugly head yat again. I've been playing with computers for over 20 years and that's one thing that hasn't changed!

Windows XP is the closest thing to a stable mainstream ever. Linux is not a viable choice for the general public. That may change, we'll have to wait and see.

The general populous of planet Earth have voted for MS with our wallets. Why is that do you think? It's easy to say that it's because every PC is sold with Windows, but that's not it. Myself and much of the world have chosen to use Office, Works, Picture It, Age of Empires, Age of Kings, Exchange Server, etc etc etc. Even the pirates Office product of choice is the MS offering.

Whether we like it or not Microsoft is top of the heap and nothing is likely to knock it off in the foreseeable future. Linux won't because it's not mainstream enough. It's OK for enthusiasts, but mission critical work in business? Or the kids PC at home?

Give me a better supported, compatable product than Windows and I'll buy it. But only if I can wander around town and get as good a selection of software as I can for a WIndows based PC.

You should give Mandrake 9.0 a go -very very good.
Mission critical?? Why are most webservers running some kind of Linux/Unix?????
