94947 2002-10-31 20:55:00 Further to my posting yesterday on the above, I would like to thank "roofus" and, in particular, "duckyduck" for helping and directing me to sites that assisted in solving the problem. I was amazed how many different situations led to Msgsrv32 "not responding" (see www.computing.net/windows95/wwwboard/forum/12413.html) but when I found that "Notificatio Wnd for RNAdmin - not responding" was a Real Player situation, the penny dropped. I had succumbed to countless pop ups telling me to update Real Player, and I did about 5 days ago. My PC progressively got slower and slower, and the "not responding" messages started appearing. Yesterday I unloaded Real Player and, behold, my PC is back to its old self and no more "not responding" messages (thank goodness!) What is it about Real that stuffs everthing up?!! KB kbcad (1025)
94948 2002-10-31 21:29:00 Real has been getting progressively worse in that respect. It's probably best not to go past Real Player Basic 8, and even then to disable everything you can, so it is only just a basic player, and doesnt try to connect anywhere or to download anything, or to take control over you!! 94949 2002-11-01 00:11:00 I have had my suspicions about real and for the last couple of years have refused point blank to have it on my system...

Good to see evidence that my instincts are probably correct

94950 2002-11-01 02:42:00 AH, the dirty old Realplayer eh. I've stuck with real8 for ages now, i never saw anydesire to get that realone player, it didn't do anything differet and i heard that there software had turned a bit dodgy. Kinda like that Bonzibuddy programme i guess.

now if your luck to have winME, when a situation like this occurs its good to use system restore. (thats if an uninstall doesn't work to be successful)

94951 2002-11-01 02:58:00 the only problem i have found with useing RP8 instead of realone is that some movies encoded with RPone will not playback with RP8 :(

i just wish i could find their codecs seperatly so i can use a different player without useing realone

94952 2002-11-01 03:25:00 I try my hardest to stay away from Real products unless the PC happens to be Super New... They just seem to cause problems in my experience, bbut obviously this is not the case for everone.

If you're running media from the web, try seeing if there is a WMA option instead.

Otherwsie, if you must, stick with Realplayer 8, or if you can find it, maybe even 7!

This i not advice for everybody, but still, it may be of use in your case!

94953 2002-11-01 03:26:00 me too, RealPlayer is a very irritating program.

I still haven't figured out why anybody would want to encode movie-style clips with realplayer, since, although the file size is about half that of DivX, they look really awful in fulscreen.

I suspect that if somebody encoded a divx movie at the equivilent realplayer quality, that it would turn out to be roughly the same size, not to mention playable in whatever player you wanted.
