94861 2002-10-31 20:18:00 When I visit a site like nzoom, it always asks me whether I want to install Macromedia Flash 6. Since it is only adverts that use this on the site, I have no wish to at this time. Is there any way to bypass the annoying dialogue box asking me this each time I access pages with ads requiring MF6? user1 (2401)

Maybe I have it already installed

94863 2002-10-31 20:25:00 AFAIK there's no way to stop the box appearing, except by downloading it. It wouldn't hurt you to download it - it's not big... it just comes down to what you find more annoying - the ads or the message. I'd find the message more annoying if it were me :)

94864 2002-10-31 20:33:00 I agree with Mike...... Forgot to say in my previous reply that there are a lot of great websites that you need flash to view.

Check this one out: www.b3ta.com

94867 2002-11-01 08:54:00 Personally I have no need to return to sites that obstruct me with Flash = I have a control panel program that shows me the through-put and all too often the delay waiting for the page to display is accompanied by large download rate telling me that Macromedia Flash is just another waste of scarce bandwidth !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Try doing a google search on something like "macromedia criticsm"

IMHO this is just shortsightedness - I have a page (not up yet, but soon) with Flash graphics on it, and most of them would be in the 5-50k range, which is pretty good even for web pictures. There are probably many many sites that use Flash well, and these don't take at all long to load, while the ones that do either use them as intro pages, or as the whole site itself. The intro pages usually offer a "Skip" link, whereas the ones that act as the whole site basically download the whole site so that there is no waiting for pages to load every time you click a link.

I mean, what has the world come to? When I got my first modem I would wait patiently for one or two hours just for a 1mb demo to download, and now people complain because a page takes 30 seconds to load rather than 2. :D
