2002-10-31 14:44:00 | Reasons: 1. When I press the hyperlink within the e mail that was sent to me by F1 administrator (i have hotmail account), I am transfferred to the page that contains replies to my question. When I want to reply to their answers I am prompted for user name and password (which is ok) BUT... If you try to login you get response that either user name or password is incorrect. I thought that I am loosing my mind. So I reset the password, and tried again. Same thing. Note that the web page is opened from within hotmail account. By pure accident I open another browser window and type www.pcworld.co.nz and go to f1 page and log in withou any problems!!! why?? 2. Now when I am finally loged in I write my replay which was a bit longer and press "post message" button, but instead of seeing my reply "published" I am again confronted with the bloody log in screen!!! and of course all my typing is gone forever! It seems that you guys are loging us off in a very short period of time - why...no idea..you tell me? Did anybody have this problem or it is only me? [Edited by: admin on Nov 5, 2002 8:33 AM]

2002-10-31 16:41:00 | I think you have a cookie problem. F1 needs a cookie, otherwise it can't tell who you are. It's a nuisance but not the end of the world. robo.

2002-10-31 18:44:00 | >Note that the web page is opened from within hotmail account. and there the large part of your problem lies..... open the www.pressf1.co.nz page... LEAVE THE WINDOW OPEN and log in to it. Open the hotmail page in another window. When you get the link in your Email, right click on the link and OPEN IN NEW PAGE... your problem will disapear as you are still logged in during this session and logged into a pressf1 page, not a "hotmail.......blah....blah=pressf1..blah" page The cookies are for pressf1, not hotmail, so they won't work accross the differant domains. .Clueless

2002-10-31 18:50:00 | I hope that makes sense... i'm up a bit late, even for me OPEN IN NEW PAGE should read "OPEN IN NEW WINDOW" (It may be nessesary to copy the link into a new blank browser window.) Even better solution, don't use hotmail :D .Clueless

2002-10-31 18:57:00 | >>> Did anybody have this problem or it is only me? robo is right - if I have done a cleanup and deleted all my cookies I have to login again and if I forget then the scenario you described occurs. If you've got all cookies disabled you won't get prompted to accept one and you'll never get logged in. Also remember to tick "always log me in" or whatever it says on the login page so that you don't have to keep signing in. Once again though, it will only work if the cookies are enabled. Don't give up!! :-)

2002-10-31 19:41:00 | Well as you will see - I managed to logon and post a reply with cookies disabled on my system. So previous info re cookies being a requirement of F1 is not strictly correct.

2002-10-31 19:58:00 | Tobas - you must hacve session based cookies enabled. No cookie, no log-in. | Biggles (121) | |
2002-10-31 20:05:00 | RedStar, I know that things can get a bit frustrating, but please tone down your language. I find the title of your thread offensive and there are quite a few youngsters using this site. | crozier (2004) | |
2002-10-31 20:09:00 | Okay Redstar - the problem IS Hotmail, and it is Microsoft's fault, not ours . Whenever you click on a link in email in Hotmail, it takes you to the site in it's own frame - notice the bar across the top of the page when you do it . In doing so, it messes with a site's cookies, because - as Clueless points out above - as far as the browser is concerned you are still on the Hotmail domain and so the PressF1 cookie does not get set . And MS don't even let you do something simple like right-click and open in a new window to solve this . Oh, no, that would be too logical . In short, an email to MS telling them how stupid, and unfriendly this system of handling links within Hotmail is wouldn't go amiss . Not, I fear, that it will do any good . . . .
