94720 2002-10-30 22:36:00 I've been having a website on Yahoo Geocities...
and wish to "muck around" and change things on it...but..to do that i have to be online..which is annoying, but have found that it can be done offline in Frontpage...
It mentions how to "upload" from Frontpage into Geocities, but not how to download...
and i KNOW it can be done coz i've done it before...but had a technican help me do that, and i have totally lost contact with him and having no luck in finding him again...so..hope PRESSF1 can come to the rescue :d

94721 2002-10-30 22:39:00 Chris,

Why do you want to download? If you've made your files offline and saved them, then uploaded them, there should be no reason to download them again as you should already have them on your computer.

94722 2002-10-30 22:44:00 Well when i first made my website it was on a total old computer..and i used the online yahoo's own verson of webpage builder...
and now i got this new total new computer and all files are online in "file manager" and the only way to access those and to edit the website overall is by using the yahoo page builder (online) which i dont want to do...i wanna use frontpage and offline :D

94723 2002-10-30 22:49:00 So you're saying you want to download the content that is already there and edit that?

Or do you want to start from scratch?

It shouldn't be an overnighter, as they only give you 15mb - if you've used all that it shouldn't even take an hour :D

Okay, I'll get back to you in about 2 or 3 minutes - I'll see if my site there is still active :)

94727 2002-10-30 22:59:00 Okay, here's what geocities . yahoo have to say about it :)

Download through File Manager:

Go to your File Manager .
Select the file you wish to download .
Click the "Edit" button at the top of your File Manager .
Highlight all of the code on the page, and then select "Edit" and then "Copy" from your Internet browser toolbar at the top of your screen .
You have now saved all of the code from your page .
Open a text editor on your computer (such as Notepad, Wordpad, or Simple Text) .
Select "Edit" and then "paste" from your text editor toolbar .
All of the code from your file in your File Manager, should appear in this file .
Select "File" and then "Save As" from your text editor toolbar .
Next to the words "File Name," name your file with the extension . html . For example: yourfile . html
Next to the words "Save as type," select the option of "All file types . "
Note: We recommend you keep a backup of all your files on your computer since we aren't able to retrieve or restore your original files .

This would be the way I do it as well - if you've got pictures you want to save though you just need to "View" the picture, then Right-Click on it and select "Save Picture As" .

HTH

94728 2002-10-30 23:02:00 It's been a while since I've used Frontpage. But I'm sure that when you 'open' a Frontpage project you can choose to open from an internet site then save it locally, as long as you have the correct password etc. crozier (2004)
