94640 2002-10-31 03:23:00 Man I love Linux :D I finally got it going (well, I reinstalled it LOL) and there's no text on screen unless I move the mouse pointer over it, and it slowly reappears... so I deleted it, and will wait for Mandrake 9 to arrive and then I'll install that :D

Ctrl/Alt/Backspace doesn't work as the GDI totally crashes and no keypresses do anything.

94641 2002-10-31 03:26:00 You didn't have a "bad video driver", you had corrupted your system. Totally. Well done, that takes an expert. :D Graham L (2)
94642 2002-10-31 05:04:00 Hi Mike,

So you don't like Lycoris Desktop? I have been eyeing up that distro. Is it just not your cup of tea or do you think it is buggy.

I see that you may move to Mandrake 9, umm .... what are you going to do with your old Lycoris CD(s)? ;-)

Jen :-)

94643 2002-10-31 05:24:00 Apparently Lycoris is available on the current APC magazine. -=JM=- (16)

94645 2002-10-31 07:17:00 I got the mag for the free copy of nortons utilities.

You will need a CD writer to burn the image of Desktop/LX from the CD.

It ran ok on my system, except it would occusionaly drop into run level 0 (shutdown) for no reason.

Well I must admit, I do think I am a Linux expert... an expert stuffer-upper :p

It's a very basic version - they've tried to make it as Windows-like as possible, so there's not much to learn from it. I think I might try loading it again, but in a different way ;)

It's not that I may move to Mandrake 9... I am moving to Mandrake 9 - it's coming out on next month's APC magazine ;) I'm keeping my Lycoris CD LOL

So did I - but I've had so many compatibility problems with that and XP and some of my other programs that most of the utilities don't run on my machine :D

94649 2002-10-31 09:57:00 One sugestion I didn't see ... If you have networking running, you can telnet/ssh to the afflicted machine & alter settings that way. I've found this useful several times ... dead keyboards, unresponsive X server etc. Linatux (828)
