94750 2002-10-31 01:30:00 erm... is American Sign language different from what we use? Perhaps their accent has something to do with it? ;\ Do the porple from the southern states use a different sign language than those in the north?

Seriously, you can get font design software: www.fontsnthings.com

It might be worth checking is NZ sign language is the same as UK language.

94751 2002-10-31 01:34:00 nah its like..
japanese is different to NZ...and well we use english as well as the states but they have a different sign language..
england is completely different too..but some of it is pretty similar...same with australia...

america like "spell" the WHOLE word...say CHRIS....i got a sign name for it...in america they would say C-H-R-I-S and in england or australia i aint sure...but i know they spell most words as well as use a sign for a whole word...

thanks for that fontdesign software website :-)

94752 2002-10-31 01:45:00 I just did a quick google search for "freeware font creator".

I'm not deaf myself, nor do I knw anyone who is.

At school, back in the Middle Ages, I had a friend whose sister was deaf and he taught some of us the alphabet. _Some_ people used it to cheat at exams :O .... but I'd never condone cheating myself :D

94756 2002-10-31 18:45:00 Why not?. I find that the size of the fonts don't suit me as I have to play around with them to get them right. Also why not design something so that basic signs (eg Hello, thank you, good etc) are displayed as a single sign as opposed to fingerspelling when the user types in the english word. This doesn't sound like a font file but could be developed as a programme to help ppl sign.

94757 2002-10-31 20:34:00 For the NZSL font to appear clearly use size 72 bold...
and i learnt something awesome last nite...it is capable to work in MSN as long the other end has the file too :d

I could make a font file with signs for whole words..but how can we get microsoft word to pick it up..say u wrote HELLO...and it automatically changes it to the sign for hello....
if microsoft word wouldnt work, theres always getting one basic program..probably wordpad...or something and re-arrange anything on there to actually make it work..with the NZSL...

mmmm :-)

94758 2002-10-31 20:43:00 Didn't know about using in MSN, thanks for that.

I normally would use the NZSL font if there is a presentation, flyer or if I am creating a greeting card (for both Deaf and hearing) I would use the NZSL font.

As for the how? to make MS word pick that up is your worry ;). Good luck if you pursue that idea.
