| 94736 | 2002-10-30 23:00:00 | Hi there, I am running windows 98SE . I want to put a username and password on my computer that prevents soemone from turning on and using the computer . Recently I set up a username under the 'Users' tab in the Control Panel . Whilst I thought this was what I needed, by simply pressing 'cancel', windows simply loads anyway . I suspect this users tab is designed for establishing perferences of different users . Does anyone know of a mechanism for putting a lock on a computer running windeows 98SE to ensure that only I can access it? Many thanks for any suggestions Johnny Talofa |

| 94737 | 2002-10-30 23:03:00 | I have an old program called "NavyPass" which puts a password in through the autoexec.bat file so that if the password isn't entered correctly the computer was locked. However if someone knew what they were doing they could get passed this. If you set up different profiles in Windows 98, and set the default profile (when Cancel is pressed) to have nothing in it, and no access by configuring through poledit, you can stop people using the computer. However, again, if the person knows what they're doing, they can get passed this. Mike. |

| 94739 | 2002-10-31 00:15:00 | On most motherboards (If your game enough to crack open the case) then you can reset the password somehow.. But as said, try not to forget it. I used Super Rabbit Magic Set (The older version from http://www.rescueman.cjb.net) to create a mandatory login. I'll see if I can get a 98 test box and do it again. Just make sure that under Users/Passwords in the Ctrl Panel, there is at least one user setup that you know the name for! Have a play around in Super Rabbit then, and you should be sweet!
