How ever Google does have people behind it. == [b] Join Kiwibank http://www.kiwibank.co.nz/ [b] |

2002-11-02 00:12:00 | Google just updated it's index yesterday. Look for your site in www2.google.com and www3.google.com to see if it is going to be included this month as google is still shuffling it's databases around. Also check your logs for the useragent googlebot. The best way to get into googles index is to submit your site into the appropriate category at dmoz.org and get as many links as you can from relavant sites that are already included in Google ie ask other clan sites if they would like to exchange links. | maccas (2410) | |
2002-11-02 05:43:00 | Tim the other thing to try is meta-tags in your page... you want to optimise your site so that search engine spyders can crawl it and add it to their database. Every search engine requires different optimisations for you to be well listed on them - do a bit of searching around their sites to suss out what they want. Also, run a Google search on 'search engine optimisation' (you probably need the American spelling of 'optimization'), and see what they come up with. So many people/companies put a lot into their websites, but don't take the time to see how to get themselves properly listed on search engines. There is one warning about all this though: as soon as you optimise your site for search engines, be prepared to get spydered regularly, and be prepared for the impact that will have on your server/s. It'll slow things down immensely, and sometimes to the point that people can't access your site - defeating the purpose somewhat. There are ways around this, but you'll need to do a little research on how to allow spydering without the drain on your servers. Cheers The Sharkmeister

2002-11-02 21:59:00 | I think search engines like it when one web site is linked to another, So you could either get a friend to link your web from theres, and you could link yours to theirs Option 2, Do not have any *.gif pictures, just *.jpg & *.png then tell burnallgifs.org/ that your web site is *.gif free and they will put it on their index page, my web site is there and I get their visitors from them all the time, just how long they stay is another question, most of my visitors come from a http: (http://www.google.com/) search and have visitor comeing every hour.

2002-11-02 23:07:00 | Bravenet have a metatag generating wizard thingy (www.bravenet.com) that created the script needed to make what the robots read likely to lead to relevant listings in search engines.. the results are not instant, but they DO happen I wonder if this will post OK.. when i hit the preview button, the responce was a post that said "null".. lets try it without spell or preview! .Clueless

2002-11-02 23:50:00 | E.ric is right, get as many links to your site as possible (increases page rank - www-db.stanford.edu). Google gives very little if any weight to meta tags it is a full page indexer, it indexes your page body text and page title. As for optimizing your site read Danny Sullivan's search engine watch (searchenginewatch.com) and Brett Tabke's search engine world (searchengineworld.com) & webmaster world (webmasterworld.com). | maccas (2410) | |
2002-11-03 00:40:00 | Even if the tags dont make a lot of difference to if your listed on google they DO make a lot of differance with other search engines, and they do make alot of differance with how you are listed ie: discription etc... without the tags the listing will be based on the first words of the sites text...... .Clueless
