95252 2002-11-01 21:06:00 What i want to do is copy music .mpegs onto CD in hope that a home DVD player will read it, of course this may not be possible.

The owner does have a computer but i would rather give her something she can play on big screen etc.

If i put the .mpeg's on CD will the DVD player read them?
If not, what do i need to do?

(living up to the new name again)

95253 2002-11-01 21:24:00 If you use Nero, you can write to VCD format, which most DVDs claim to be able to play.

My experience however is that some DVDs do not like CD-R, and therefore dont recognise them. Your mileage may vary of course.

95255 2002-11-01 21:50:00 Hi GF and Clueless

I've spend ages on this very topic, and guess for a change may be able to help a little.

Nero does convert mpeg1 files to vcd but if you want better quality you should go to mpeg2 to create SVCDs (super VCD). But Nero doesn't come with that converter built in, you have to buy it seperately.

And there are some machines that either don't play VCDs as a matter of course, and some that should but won't. I've got one of those Farmers' Lennox (australian) brand DVDs and it plays everything I throw at it. So I only use warehouse CDRs (cheapest and work every time) and they work fine.

I found this website: www.vcdhelp.com awesome - it shows you what each model can and can't read and also user comments on each....invaluable stuff.

I also convert AVI movies to SVCD and then watch those on the home system, much easier than everyone sitting around the laptop!
