| 95244 | 2002-11-01 20:22:00 | Hi, I have a few icons in the system tray (that thing bottom right with the clock etc) that I want to remove but can't figure out how too. Like the realviewer for instance. Must have said ok to it on installation. Also do i need to have the task scheduler (never used) or the volume (same) or the display info one? Thanks for any help, the help file dosn't seem to help with this! Trying to turn off anything thats slowing this thing down :) cheers Pete |

| 95245 | 2002-11-01 20:28:00 | Most icons in the tray can be disabled by going into the options of the programme and disabling "load at startup" or "icon in taskbar" If you can't find this then goto the run command type in "msconfig" then goto the startup tab and disable programmes not required at startup. |

| 95246 | 2002-11-01 21:39:00 | To disable Task Scheduler (and remove it from the system tray): Double click on the icon in the system tray and then select Advanced, Stop Using Task Scheduler. This should remove the icon from the system tray. To remove the volume icon from the Taskbar: Enter the control panel and double click on Multimedia (or Sounds and Audiop devices). There sould be a 'Show Volume control on the taskbar' option or similar. De-select this and click OK, and the icon should disappear from the system tray. |

| 95249 | 2002-11-02 02:45:00 | Click Start/Run and type msconfig in the run box. Click the Startup tab and uncheck any program you don't think you'll need. I had about 35 background programs running so it took forever to boot up. Now I have about 8 and the computer boots up a lot faster. No more annoying icons cluttering up the system tray. Don't ask me which programs to take out because with me being a relative newbie it was more of a trial and error situation. Good luck. | jrust (2064) | ||
