95000 2002-11-01 01:19:00 I have a compaq prolinea 4/66 that only boots from floppy. I need to change this so I can boot from the primary master drive. The problem is that I don't know how to change this from the bios. (and i don't get a boot screen to tell me where everything is.) So those of you who cut your teeth on 486's you help would be appreciated. travis (2405)
95001 2002-11-01 01:29:00 As far as I can remember, It's F12 or F10 with Compaq's.

When you're in the BIOS, It'll likely be a specific program, not a normal style bios, so look around for Boot Options.

Cheers

95002 2002-11-01 01:29:00 At some stage, there should be a white block appearing at the top righthand corner of the screen. Press F10 (or F9, or F12 -- depends on the model ... yours may be old enough for Ctrl/Alt/Esc) when it appears. Graham L (2)
95003 2002-11-01 01:56:00 F10 is the one ... That gets you into a programme which lives in the 2MB Compaq Diagnostics partition ... if that has been removed, F10 can do nothing. If you are in that state, enter "proline 4/66 bios" to google, and the first match will find you the RomPaq which lets you make a floppy or two which will restore the diagnostics partition. It's probably the link called "F10 setup for older systems". Graham L (2)
