2002-11-01 19:17:00 | Do I need to worry about who is connecting to my comp? I've just downloaded Mizo's XP netstat bar (which is a bit buggy) and it say's that I'm being connected to, a lot more than I thought! Iconz seems to be connecting to a lot of my local ports (but they might be affilliates of Clear.net, who I'm with...) They're are others though, who I don't know anything about. So does anyone know if I need to do anything to stop this use of my bandwidth by 'them others', like blocking ports or whatever Or perhaps it's all good stuff?? I'm using the freeZA as it is and IE6.

2002-11-01 20:25:00 | No, Za doesn't touch it and I've had them (iconz) connecting to 14 different local ports at once! | Trev0 (1995) | |
2002-11-02 05:07:00 | Maybe you were visiting sites hosted at ICONZ ? | -=JM=- (16) | |
2002-11-02 06:07:00 | do you know if pressF1 is hosted by ICONZ?? | Trev O (452) | |
2002-11-02 09:40:00 | PressF1 is hosted by IDG at their offices as far as I'm aware. Or maybe it isn't. Just did a quick trace route and yes it does have something to do with ICONZ. 1 114 ms 113 ms 110 ms 192.168.251.45 2 114 ms 108 ms 109 ms 192.168.27.1 3 112 ms 112 ms 111 ms 192.168.254.70 4 115 ms 113 ms 115 ms e0.ts9.ak.iconz.net.nz [202.14.100.240] 5 129 ms 123 ms 120 ms s1.idg-router-1.akl.iconz.net.nz [210.48.2.2] 6 128 ms 127 ms 126 ms ns1.idg.co.nz [210.48.100.2] 7 129 ms 127 ms 126 ms ip-210-48-100-30.iconz.net.nz [210.48.100.30] So it would seem that it is.

2002-11-02 20:11:00 | Thanks for that JM, I noticed after your post that it all started happening when I came here (to pressf1), this is 'my' predominant remote host number 210.48.100.45 So I guess it's all good stuff then and I don't need to worry!? Is it normal for a site to connect to so many local ports? since I've had this new prog, no other site I've been to, has so many connections to my local ports... I've had the number upto 22 different local ports when I've had more than one pressf1 page open (a la Multibrowser) I really don't know anything about it, as you may have guessed, I'd just like to connect faster, like everyone else on 56k! Thanks again Trev

2002-11-02 21:41:00 | When I checked I to have a rather lot of connections to iconz as well. I'd hate to see what it's like when I've got 50+ tabs open. All I can say is that it's normal because the same thing happens at other sites when I've got lots of tabs open. I can only assume that it will make the initial connection on port80 then it will negotiate to use another port. I really should pay more attention in class.

2002-11-02 23:57:00 | Thanks for looking anyway. Yes they do all say remote port 80 connecting to local ports 3xxx as many as it needs I guess, although the status seems to be time-wait??? so who knows? >I really should pay more attention in class I didn't like to say anything...(slacker!) lol toodle-pip trev
