95557 2002-11-03 01:07:00 Computers! Who would have them! I have a two month old Compaq running Windows XP Pro. Today's blue screen of death message was:

"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage ... Kernel_Stack_Inpage_Error ... If this is the first time you have seen this stop error screen, restart the computer. If this screen appears again follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need.

If problems continue disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable Bios memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup options, and then select Safe Mode. Technical Information Stop: 0x00000077 (0xC0000185, 0xC0000185, 0x00000000, 0x010CC000) ... Beginning dump pf physical memory"

I powered off and on to be greeted with "1720-Smart HardDrive detects imminent failure. Your hard disk drive is detecting an immient failure ... Backup contents and replace the hard drive. Attribute Failed: #05 F1:Boot"

I guess it is time to say goodbye to my near new harddrive and call in the experts?

95558 2002-11-03 01:26:00 "Two months old" .

A message like that means: "(1) Turn off the computer .
(2) Take it to the vendor . (3) Say: "This computer, under warramty is broken . Fix it . "

It happens . Failure happens quickly, or after a long time . You'll get a new disk . If you're lucky, they'll be able to get off any data you have too .

95561 2002-11-03 04:48:00 two months old, and already trashed? u should defintelty go and get a replacement for free. unless u purposely tried a virus or a trojan. ]:) Have u got a antivirus bootdisk? if so try and enter bios and change the bootup sequence to either cdrom drive or floppy, depending on wot type of disk the antivirus is on, then it should load in dos and give a virus scan. if i was right then u know wot the problem is and get the so called "experts" to remove the virus. But ur HDD is probably trashed for life, since it can't boot into windows.

cheers,
v.K

95562 2002-11-03 05:07:00 Graham L, You confirmed what I thought, so thanks.
Clueless, I will make a note to ask what Hard Disk it is.
Vk dre, There is definitely no virus on my computer. I keep Norton updates updated religiously.
You can guess who I will be phoning tomorrow and will keep you all posted.
Many thanks
