95451 2002-11-02 06:47:00 I got a new super fast computer in Julywith WinXp installed. Last week i downloaded the winxp sp1 which took 2+ hrs. I had frequent auto disconnect during this interminable time. Can some one please advise me how to reset auto disconnect. I have looked on the OE & IE help and nothing seems to point to an answer. lydia (2422)
95452 2002-11-02 07:10:00 Depends what you mean by "reset auto disconnect"

You will have been disconnected from your dial-up internet connection because of:

Noise on the phone line
or
Your ISP bumping people off the web to share the system out
or
The place you were downloading from being overloaded
or
1,000 other things that affect dial-up.

There is nothing you can "reset" on your computer really.

You could get an application (free off the web) to allow you to resume where you left off a bit tidier. Something such as Download Accelerator Plus (DAP).

95453 2002-11-02 07:25:00 try this fresh download (http://www.freshdevices.com/), but I suspect you already had a download manager.
If you are using IE6 (or so) look in Tools/Internet Options. Pick the Connections tab, and below the remove button is a settings button - click the settings button.
On this new page select the properties button, then pick the options tab.
Now you will see a "Redialling Options" radio box. The third option is "idle time before hanging up". Change this setting to never.
Hopefully this will fix everything.
