95375 2002-11-02 06:11:00 Thank you to all who have replied.
Godfather...yes I have tried turning the monitor off and then back on to no avail.
If it is something inherent with the Graphics card..then that is the problem. However I will try the Alt Tab suggestion next time it happens as suggested by Rufus. Thanks

95376 2002-11-02 06:22:00 Smurf,
I have tried Alt+tab before, but even that failed to wake up my monitor.

95377 2002-11-02 06:32:00 The question remains...how do you know your computer has not locked up, so its not a simple case of "monitor failing to wake"

Sometimes PC's die in their sleep too.....

95378 2002-11-02 06:39:00 Hi godfather...Point taken... is there a way of determining this? Smurf (506)
95379 2002-11-02 07:13:00 Just hit one of the arrows keys to wake up , if it wont wake with the mouse . Weezer (2266)
95380 2002-11-02 07:15:00 The simplest.
See if your CAPS LOCK key light goes on and off when you toggle the key.

If it does, the PC is alive enough to know it is working...if not..R.I.P

In any case, does the HDD etc start up when its supposed to wake? (however it could be dying because its been woken, in which case it would start) But the CAPS LOCK wouldnt work after it died.

95381 2002-11-02 07:22:00 I have tried the monitor on/off button, Alt+tab and arrow keys - all to no avail.

Godfather - next time I will try the Caps Lock to see if there is any action on the keyboard with the light. Thanks for that hint.

95382 2002-11-03 07:29:00 Smurf, yesterday I posted that I had exactly the same problems as you are experiencing. Today I was greeted with "1720-Smart HardDrive detect imminent failure. Your hard disk drive is detecting an imminent failure. Backupp contents and replace the hard drive, Attribute Failed: #05". For my sake I hope the two are connected, but for your sake I hope they are not. I never received any other warning signs. Oxie (1318)
95383 2002-11-03 22:43:00 Oxie,
I hope not too . Somehow I doubt it because this problem has been intermittent for months with me. Having said that though, you never know yer luck in a big city. Thanks

95384 2002-11-03 23:58:00 I to had this prob, with a new Hp and XP home.
It hasn't happened for ages now and after reading this thread, I'm wondering if me turning Hibernate off, totaly, had anything to do with it
Control panel>hibernate, uncheck 'enable hibernate'.

Just a shot in the dark
